Kids need to learn critical thinking.

When I first conceptualized Juniorpreneur, it was primarily to teach children critical thinking. I recognized the need for the next generation (the Alpha generation) to ask more questions and be more in tune with how, and why they are being ‘targeted’ for consumption. Secondary to that, I wanted to arm kids with the knowledge to always be able to market themselves weather they work for someone, or operate their own business.

In speaking to many young people as a Marketing & Business Coach, it has been becoming increasingly clearer to me that young people want to be independent, and find ways to make money outside of working for someone else. The evolution of the ‘side hustle’ was intended to bring in more money, but it has also proven that young people can chase their dreams and be their own boss.

Developing critical thinking skills early guarantees that kids have time to put those skills to practice throughout their early adult years. Therefore, giving them the time they need to hone their craft and become successful, independent entrepreneurs or business leaders.

Critical thinking is defined as – ‘the objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgment.’ Our children should be exposed to situations that leave them calculating risk, and reward. Learning critical thinking skills that relate to real world environments is not always presented to our youth. If the presentation was fun, and interactive, then the capacity to remember how to analyze and evaluate is far greater.
